"Kid Cosmic follows the adventures of an imaginative and enthusiastic boy who lives with his free-spirited Grandpa in a sparsely populated desert town. The Kid's dreams of being a hero seem to come true when he discovers five Cosmic Stones of Power in a wrecked spaceship. He forms a team of local heroes to stop an onslaught of alien attacks to stea...
McCracken's idea of 'Kid Cosmic' came in 2009, but McCracken realized that the concept needed to be serialized and thought out more, and did not pursue it on the side for several years. McCraken returned to the series when more networks were available to serialization in comic adaptations. McCracken presented Netflix the animatic for the pilot, which was well-received, and greenlit the series in ten 22-minute episodes 10-episode.
On November 6, 2018, Netflix announced 'Kid Cosmic' as one of the upcoming projects in production for their animated programming.

•Kid Cosmic is based on McCracken's experiences as a child, and the sentiment that kids have naïve confidence that whatever they want to do can happen. Elements are likewise based on his initial confidence when he first began his entrepreneurship as a cartoonist.
•New Mexico was chosen as the series' setting to pay tribute to its iconic association with the 1947 Roswell spaceship crash rumor.
•The series was originally slated to air in 2020 but was changed to 2021.
•The series features a hand-drawn retro style as a balance between the series's grounded reality and cartoon nature. Inspiration came from from classic cartoons and comics, such as Dennis the Menace and The Adventures of Tintin.
