Small Steps is a 2006 young adult novel by American author Louis Sachar, first published by Delacorte Books (Dell). [1] It is a spin–off to Sachar's critically acclaimed novel Holes, focusing on Theodore "Armpit" Johnson, a secondary character from Holes.
Jan 1, 2006 · While technically a sequel to Holes, Small Steps is a) for a totally different audience and b) easily readable/understandable without having first read Holes. This book has none of the magic of Holes, but once I was able to separate the two in my head, it became a more enjoyable story. It's a good, fun book, but not a good, fun Holes sequel.
