Merlapaka wanted to become a film director since the 10th standard. After completing his graduation, he convinced his father to let him join a Cinematography course at the L. V. Prasad film institute in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, although, he eventually pursued a direction course there.

Dec 20, 2021 · One of the young and talented directors of the Telugu film industry, Merlapaka Gandhi made his directorial debut with the comedy-drama ‘Venkatadri Express’ starring Sundeep Kishan and Rakul Preet Singh. Gandhi also directed a blockbuster film ‘Express Raja,’ starring Sharwanand and Surbhi.
Since the age of 15, he dreamed to become a film director. So, though he completed his graduation in engineering course, he convinced his father and joined film stream. He studied Cinematography course in L. V. Prasad film institute in Chennai, and also started writing stories.
