Bardhaman district ( / ˈbɑːrdəˌmən /, Bengali: [ˈbɔrˌdʱoman]; also spelled Burdwan or Barddhaman or Vardhaman) was a district in West Bengal. On 7 April 2017, the district was bifurcated into two districts: Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman district.
The district Purba Bardhaman, one of the important districts of the Burdwan Division, is situated between 23 o 53′ N to 22 o 56′ N Latitude and 88 o 25′ E to 87 o 56′ E Longitude. It contains an area of 5432.69 Sq.K.M. as ascertained by the latest survey, and a population according to the Census of 2011 is 4835532 persons.
