Shaniwar Wada is a historical fortification in the city of Pune, India. Built in 1732, [1] it was the great seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire until 1818. Following the rise of the Maratha Empire, the palace became the center of Indian politics in the 18th century.

Built by the Peshwas (Prime Ministers) of the Maratha King (Chhatrapati), this palace fort has nearly been destroyed completely by a combination of military attacks and fires through the centuries.
One of the most renowned and prestigious Wada is the 286-year-old Shaniwar Wada, and it remains to be evidence of the proud Maratha Empire. It was at one time a melting pot of culture and politics, and to date, draws in nearly 300 sightseers from over the globe every day.
