Mumtaz Askari Madhvani (née Askari; born 31 July 1947) is an Indian actress who worked in Hindi films. Regarded as one of finest actresses of Hindi cinema, Mumtaz is the recipient of two Filmfare Award. Mumtaz made her acting debut at age 11 with Sone Ki Chidiya (1958), and did smaller roles in films like Stree (1961) and Sehra (1963).
Jul 31, 2023 · Soon after her fifth standard education, Mumtaz dropped out of school and started working in films. At 11, she starred as a child actor in four films — Sone Ki Chidiya, Stree, Talaq and Mujhe Jeene Do. She got her first lead role at 15 as she got paired opposite Dara Singh in the 1963 film Faulad.
Mumtaz won the Best Actress award for her character as Chand in 'Khilona' during 1970, and in 1996 went to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mumtaz quit Bollywood after she married Mayur Madhwani in 1974 but left India only after completing her films opposite Rajesh Khanna in 1976 and thereafter re-located to Britain.
