About. Let’s take a trip back 20 years. With memories the dot-com boom and bust looming over the industry, those of us lucky enough to still have work hunkered down and kept using the hacky table layouts and font tags that typified web development in the late 90’s.
CSS Zen Garden. A landmark site in the development of web standards. Thousands of design submissions from 30+ countries, translated to multiple languages, and remains a common learning tool for web curriculums around the world. Contribution: Creator, Maintainer. CSS Zen Garden brought five designs at launch. The website was inspired by a CSS-related contest from HotBot, by web developer Chris Casciano's experiment called "Daily CSS Fun", as well as the Web Standards Project's efforts to get CSS adopted more widely by designers.
The Canadian web designer Dave Shea launched a community gallery of websites called CSS Zen Garden. The project offered a simple HTML template to be downloaded, the graphic design of which could be customized by any web designer, but only with the help of cascading styles and one’s own pictures.
