Velupillai Prabhakaran (1954-2009) was a Sri Lankan militant leader and the founder of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He founded LTTE with the intent of forming a separate country for the Tamils in Sri Lanka. He was also convicted of assassinating Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.
