Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved 18 New Sainik Schools, which operate in partnership with NGOs/private schools/State Governments.
The Sainik Schools are a system of public schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under Ministry of Defence (MoD). They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the officer cadre of the Indian Military.
AISSAC 2024 has been set up by the SSS, MoD to manage and regulate the seat allocation for AISSEE 2024 qualified candidates for admissions into 33 existing Sainik Schools and 40 New Sainik Schools for the academic year 2024-25.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a provision for 100 new Sainik Schools to be set up in partnership with NGOs, private schools and states, in the Union Budget for the 2021-22 fiscal.
