Mangal Pandey was an Indian soldier who played a key role in the events taking place just before the outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857. He was a sepoy (infantryman) in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) regiment of the British East India Company .
Mangal Pandey is a Sepoy in the army controlled by the East India Company, a company that had entered Hindustan to trade, but subsequently showed their true colors, exploited the natives, divided, and ruled over them.
The British are plundering the resources of their Indian subjects, who have reached their breaking point. Soldier Mangal Pandey leads an uprising against India's imperialist occupiers -- events the British call a mutiny and the Indians call a war for independence.
