Pa. Ranjith is an Indian film director, screenwriter and film producer who primarily works in Tamil cinema. He made his directorial debut with the 2012 romantic comedy Attakathi, before earning unanimously positive reviews for his second film, the political action-drama Madras (2014).

Pa. Ranjith was born in the village of Karalapakkam, around 25 kilometers west of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He studied at the Egmore Fine Arts College in Northern Chennai (then Madras). Ranjith says that he used to travel to college every day and his journey to and fro served as inspiration for him to write film scripts.
