This circa 1924 Redwood viscometer (No. 3199) was designed by Sir Boverton Redwood, a Welsh petroleum chemist, and was used to determine the viscosity of oils. The viscosity was determined by the time, in seconds, required for a certain quantity of liquid to pass out through an orifice in the instrument under given conditions.
