Our deep, on-the-ground work in Education has laid the foundation for expanding our work into Health and Livelihoods. We are a not-for-profit organisation working towards a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. Our work is focused on India.
Our grants work emerges from our vision to contribute towards a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. We support 1,150 not-for-profits and and civil society organisations (CSOs) across India with financial grants. A significant percentage of our grants goes to organisations working on the ground directly with vulnerable groups of people.

What We Do. Education is where our story began, and it continues to be at the centre of our efforts. We focus on providing quality education to all, through the country’s vast network of government schools.
The Azim Premji Scholarship Programme furthers the Foundation’s vision to contribute towards a just, equitable, humane, and sustainable society. Through this programme, we seek to support students from disadvantaged and marginalised groups to pursue college education.
The Foundation was formally established on 9 March 2001 (under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act of 1956). Since then, Azim Premji has contributed a substantial portion of his wealth to create a philanthropic endowment, valued at approximately INR 2,40,000 crore (USD 29 billion) as of January 2023.
Azim Premji Schools are integral to our work in improving K-12 education in India. These demonstration schools give us an opportunity to practise what we advocate and assist in our work with government schoolteachers.
We are present in nine districts of North-East Karnataka: Bagalkot, Ballari, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagar and Yadgir. We have also begun work in Bengaluru, Chamarajnagar, Mandya and Ramanagara. We have Azim Premji Schools in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi and Yadgir.
After our large-scale involvement in relief and vaccination-related work during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation’s initiatives in Health took off in 2022, at three slum clusters in Bengaluru. It then expanded to 10 districts around the borders of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in 2023.
