Feb 6, 2024 · The Government of India fixes Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 22 mandated agricultural crops on the basis of the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP), views of State Governments and Central Ministries/Departments concerned.
The minimum support prices are a guarantee price for their produce from the Government. The major objectives are to support the farmers from distress sales and to procure food grains for public distribution.
The MSP for Paddy has gone from Rs 1360 per quintal in 2014-15 to Rs 1940 per quintal in 2021-22, a 43% increase. The MSP for Wheat has gone from Rs 1450 per quintal in 2014-15 to Rs 2015 per quintal in 2021-22, a 39% increase.
