The transformation process is called metamorphosis. Tadpoles look somewhat like fish, with short oval bodies, broad tails, and no arms or legs. Like fish, they live in water and breathe through internal gills. During metamorphosis the tadpole’s lungs develop. Limbs appear, the tail is absorbed, and the mouth becomes typically froglike.
