Savitribai Phule was born on 3 January, 1831, in the Naigaon village of Satara District of Maharashtra. Her birthplace is about 15 km (9.3 mi) from Shirval, and 50 km (31 mi) from Pune. [5] She was the youngest daughter of four children born to Lakshmi and Patil, both of whom belonged to the Mali Community. [9] [10] Savitribai married her husband, Jyotirao Phule, at the age of 9 or 10, while he was 13. [11] [12] [13]
