Salesian College, established in Shillong, in 1933, was shifted to Sonada, in 1938. It comes under section 2(f) and 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956. In 1935, SCS received affiliation to the Calcutta University for I.A., and in1948 for B.A. Course in English, History and Latin followed by Economics in 1950.

The Salesian College, Sonada, was first established in 1926, by the Salesian Society of Shillong. The College obtained its affiliation to I A of the University of Calcutta in 1935. However, in 1935 the whole building along with its contents was destroyed by fire.
