Figueira da Foz is a large, popular seaside resort on the Atlantic coast directly west of Coimbra. The town is on the north bank of the Mondego River as it flows in to the sea. Figueira is around 200 km north of the capital Lisbon and approximately 120 km south of Porto on the so-called Silver Coast (Costa de Prata).
