Alhambra ( / ælˈhæmbrə / ⓘ, / ɑːlˈhɑːmbrə / ⓘ, Spanish: [aˈlambɾa]; from "Alhambra") is a city located in the western San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California, United States, approximately eight miles from the Downtown Los Angeles civic center. It was incorporated on July 11, 1903.
In 1915, Alhambra became a chartered city, one of only a few in California. By 1910, the population grew to 5,000 and by the end of the 1930's, its population was nearly 40,000.
