Mona Singha was a beauty queen while studying at St. Bede's College, Shimla. She was introduced to films by Chetan Anand of Navketan Films with the film Baazi in 1951.
During the pageant contest, filmmaker Chetan Anand spotted ‘Mona Singha’ and offered her a role in one of his movies. He even gave her the screen name- Kalpana Kartik. She got secretly married to Dev Anand in the middle of the night on the sets of “Taxi Driver” in 1954.
He was the third son of Pishorimal Anand, a lawyer, and his wife, Devaki Devi. He had two older brothers, Chetan and Vijay. He attended the Government College in Gurdaspur and the DAV College in Lahore. Dev Anand made his acting debut in the 1946 film Hum Ek Hain.
