Project Gutenberg is named after the inventor Johannes Gutenberg, whose works in developing printing technology led to an increase in the mass availability of books and other text.
Project Gutenberg’s bookshelves are hand-curated collections of eBooks that have similar topics. Bookshelf listings were created by volunteers, and many have not been updated or may otherwise be incomplete.

Dec 9, 2016 · To my knowledge, Project Gutenberg is the only ebook site that has special treatment on Google. Like major news sites (NYT, Guardian, Forbes), you can search PG directly from Google web search. Type “Project Gutenberg” in a search box, and you’ll see the extended site info.
