May 13, 2024 · The Stranger follows the life of Meursault, a Frenchman living in Algeria whose apathetic responses to life get him in trouble socially and eventually result in his death. It is concerned with the absurd and with the French colonization of Algeria.
Plot. Part 1. Meursault learns of the death of his mother, who has been living in an old age home in the country. He takes time off from work to attend her funeral but seems to show no signs of grief or mourning to the people around him.
A young man, Meursault, lives a detached and emotionless life in Algiers. He kills a man in a fight and is sentenced to death, but his lack of remorse and faith in God shocks the court and the reader.
