Feb 24, 2023 · Maharashtra’s Aurangabad and Osmanabad cities have been renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv respectively, the Ministry of Home Affairs said Friday, adding that it had approved the proposal as it had no objection to renaming the cities.
"Under the Mughals and later flourishing during the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar became a strategic hub. Renamed to honor Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the city preserves its medieval roots with pride, showcasing key historical milestones that shaped its identity."
