Sonobe (園部町, Sonobe-chō) was a town located in Funai District, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. On January 1 2006, Sonobe, along with the towns of Hiyoshi and Yagi (all from Funai District ), and the town of Miyama (from Kitakuwada District ), was merged to create the city of Nantan .
The origin of the Sonobe module is unknown [2]. Two possible creators are Toshie Takahama and Mitsunobu Sonobe, who published several books together and were both members of Sōsaku Origami Gurūpu '67. The earliest appearance of a Sonobe module was in a cube attributed to Mitsunobu Sonobe in the Sōsaku Origami Gurūpu '67's magazine Origami ...

Sep 1, 2024 · Sonobejō has the distinction of being the last ever castle built in Japan! It was built in 1868, the same year as the Meiji Restoration, and thus, the year the Edo Shogunate ended.

Miyama (美山) is a remote, rural area in the mountains 30 kilometers north of central Kyoto. The area is famous for its traditional, thatched roof (kayabuki) farmhouses of which over 200 can be seen dotting the countryside.
