On September 19, 1959, residents voted to incorporate as the Village of Hoffman Estates. The charter was issued on September 23, 1959. The population at the time was about 8,000, and the incorporated area was just under three square miles.
The Village of Hoffman Estates is located in Cook County, Illinois and is a northwest suburb of the City of Chicago. Hoffman Estates is a diverse community of nearly 55,000 located along and on both sides (north and south) of Interstate 90.
The Village of Hoffman Estates is comprised of nearly 400 employees working in nine departments in eight municipal facilities. The Village is a full-service community, employing full-time firefighter/paramedics and police officers, in addition to other civic professionals.
