Cirupitty Wyravanathar Thamotharampillai (Pillai) (Tamil: சி. வை. தாமோதரம்பிள்ளை; 12 September 1832 – 1 January 1901)), sometimes referred to by the initials as C. Y., devoted his energies to the work of editing and publishing some of the oldest works of classical Tamil poetry and grammar.
சி. வை. தாமோதரம்பிள்ளை ( C. W. Thamotharampillai, 12 செப்டம்பர் 1832 - 1 சனவரி 1901) என்னும் சிறுப்பிட்டி வைரவநாதபிள்ளை தாமோதரம்பிள்ளை பண்டைய சங்கத் தமிழ் நூல்கள் செல்லரித்து அழிந்து போகாது, தமது அரிய தேடல்கள் மூலம் அவற்றை மீட்டெடுத்து, காத்து, ஒப்பிட்டு பரிசோதித்து, அச்சிட்டு வாழ வைத்த முதல்வர்.
C.W. Thamotharampillai and a fellow student from Jaffna, Daniel Caroll Vyramuttu Visuvanathapillai, were the only two who sat for the University's final B.A. exams in the year it was founded, 1857, and both passed the exams to become the first graduates of the University of Madras.

C W THAMOTHARAMPILLAI. (1832 - 1901) யா ழ்ப்பாணத்தில் பிறந்த அப்பெருந்தகை, தமிழ் நாட்டுக்கு வருகை புரிந்து, தலைசிறந்த தமிழ்த் தொண்டாற்றி, வரலாற்றில் நிலையானதோர் இடமும், நெடிய புகழும் பெற்றார். 'தேசப்பற்றும், சமயப் பற்றும், மொழிப்பற்றும் அற்ற மனிதர் இருந்தென்ன? இறந்தென்ன?' என வினவினார், அப்பெருமகனார்.
