Edgar Snow was a journalist who interviewed Mao Zedong and other Chinese communist leaders in 1936, and wrote the influential book Red Star Over China. He is revered in China as a friend and a hero for his courage and accuracy in reporting the revolution.
Edgar Snow: Citizen of the World. On July 19, 1905, Edgar Parks Snow was born in Kansas City, Missouri, into a middle-class family. His father, James Edgar Snow, owned a printing shop where young Snow would occasionally work.
In Red Star Over China, Edgar Snow recounts the months that he spent with the Chinese Red Army in 1936. Most of this time, he was at their then-capital Bao'an (Pao An) . They moved to the famous Yan'an only after he left.
