The University of Kelaniya (UoK; Sinhala: කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලය, Tamil: களனி பல்கலைக்கழகம்) is a public university in Sri Lanka. Just outside the municipal limits of Colombo, in the city of Kelaniya, the university has two major institutions and seven faculties.
The University of Kelaniya is one of Sri Lanka’s largest state universities. It claims origin from the historic Vidyalankara Pirivena, a national center of traditional learning that was established in 1875.
The University of Kelaniya has a history that dates back to 1875 when a centre of learning for Buddhist monks was created. In 1959 the centre became the Vidyalankara University and in 1978 it was renamed the University of Kalaniya. As its name suggests, the university is located in Kelaniya, a city in the Western Province, Sri Lanka.
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya is one of ten state medical schools in Sri Lanka. It commenced classes with the admission of 120 medical students in September 1991 and has now graduated more than 20 batches of medical students.

Dean's Message. Faculty of Science is one of the best and biggest providers of basic and applied science based education including research and innovation in Sri Lanka, with over 1,900+ undergraduates and 200+ postgraduates with a high annual research income.
Undergraduate Programmes. The Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya consists of eight academic Departments, namely the Departments of Botany, Chemistry, Industrial Management, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics & Computer Science and Zoology.
