Rosewood is any of a number of richly hued hardwoods, often brownish with darker veining, but found in other colours. [1] . It is hard, tough, strong, and dense. True rosewoods come from trees of the genus Dalbergia, but other woods are often called rosewood.
Description and biology. Pinnately compound leaves of Dalbergia latifolia growing in Java. The tree has grey bark that peels in long fibres, pinnately compound leaves, and bunches of small white flowers. [3] It grows as both an evergreen and a deciduous tree in the deciduous monsoon forests of India making the tree very drought hardy.
