Maha Singh ( Punjabi: Mahaṅ Singh; 1760 – 15 April 1790 [1] or 1756 – April 1792), [2] [3] also spelt as Mahan or Mahn Singh, was the second chief of the Sukerchakia Misl, which as a Sikh grouping with its guerilla militia was one of twelve Sikh Misls that later became part of the Sikh Empire.
Ranjit Singh (13 November 1780 – 27 June 1839) ( Punjabi: ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, Raṇajīta Siṃha) was the founder and first maharaja of the Sikh Empire, ruling from 1801 until his death in 1839. He ruled the northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century. He survived smallpox in infancy but lost sight in his left eye.

During the siege 40 Sikhs, led by Maha Singh, wrote letters of bedava (abandonment of a Sikh from his Guru) to Guru Gobind Singh ji. They arrived in the village of Jhabal where a Sikh woman named Mata Bhag Kaur , upon hearing their tale of desertion , motivated them into returning to Guru ji at Anandpur Sahib.

He is known for his alliance with Jassa Singh Ramgarhia and for reducing the power of the Kanheya Misl. As the new leader of the Sukerchakia Misl he captured the Rohtas Fort from Nur ud-Din Bamezai, a general of Ahmad Shah Durrani.
