Sri Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma III (16 April 1813 – 26 December 1846) was the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Travancore. He is also was a music composer and is credited with over 400 classical compositions in both Carnatic and Hindustani style.

Sri Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma was born into the Chera Dynasty of the royal family of Travancore, which is now a part of Kerala, on 16 April 1813. He was born to Rani Gauri Lakshmi Bai of Travancore & Raja Raja Varma Koyi Thampuran, a Samskritam scholar, of Changanasseri Palace.
Rama Varma was born as a savior of Travancore. There was no male heir in the Travancore Royal family and the threat of the infamous Doctrine of Lapse loomed over this tiny state. Nobody in Travancore, including the then British resident Col. Munroe wanted the kingdom to be annexed to British India.
