He enjoyed considerable popularity in the 1920s and early 1930s, specializing in jazzy renditions of pop standards and novelty tunes. He had a number one hit with "Singin' in the Rain" in 1929.

Mar 30, 2021 · Clifton Avon “Cliff” Edwards was born on June 14, 1895, in Hannibal, Missouri. By the age of 12 he was supporting himself with menial jobs including working in a shoe factory. He dropped out of school early, left home when he was 14, sang for tips in St. Louis, and worked with traveling carnivals and minstrel shows.
