Pendragon are an English neo-prog band established in 1978 in Stroud, Gloucestershire as Zeus Pendragon by guitarist and vocalist Nick Barrett. The word Zeus was dropped before the band started recording, as the members decided it was too long to look good on a T-shirt.

Pendragon was formed in 1976, in the small town of Stroud, Gloucestshire, England, by the young enthusiast Nick Barrett and some schoolmates. Initially the band's name was Zeus Pendragon, which would be shortened two years later. The band struggled hard to stand out among hundreds of other bands that formed almost daily in the British Isles.
Pendragon….from the cradle. The story begins in the quiet, sleepy town of Stroud, Gloucestershire, England in 1978. Four like minded, young musicians got together and decided to form a rock band. Zeus Pendragon consisting of Nick Barrett [guitar/vocals], Julian Baker [guitar/vocals], Nigel Harris [drums] and Stan Cox [bass] was born.
