He began his career as a qawwal in the early 1950s, and later formed the Sabri Brothers with his brother Maqbool Ahmed Sabri. Together, they performed extensively in Pakistan and India, and also made several international tours.

Sabri Brothers were originally led by the soaring voice of the late Haji Ghulam Farid Sabri, whose periodic repeat use of 'Allah' during songs has become a Sabri signature, and his younger brother late Haji Maqbool Ahmed Sabri.
Formation of the Sabri Brothers. In 1957, the Sabri Brothers duo formed when Ghulam Farid joined Maqbool Ahmed’s Bacha Qawwal Party as its leader. To this point, Ghulam Farid had sung as a supporting lead in a different group called the Ustad Kallan Khan’s Qawwali group. Maqbool Ahmed was performing Hindi movie songs at a theater in Karachi. In 1958, they were signed to EMI Pakistan.
