  5. The 1929 film, The Informer, is the first adaptation of Liam O'Flaherty's 1925 novel. It's better known adaptation is arguably John Ford's 1935 remake, which I saw first and am more familiar with, but I am pleased to see that this is a classic in its own right and deserves to take its place as one of the greatest British silent movies.
