I Am Slave is a 2010 television film produced for Channel 4 on the story of one woman's fight for freedom from modern-day slavery. It premiered on Channel 4 on 30 August 2010. The movie is mostly based on the experiences of Mende Nazer, a Sudanese author, human rights activist and a former slave in Sudan and London.
Based on the real-life experiences of Mende Nazer, the story unfolds as twelve-year-old Malia, daughter of champion wrestler Bah, is abducted from her Sudanese village in the Nubar Mountains by pro-government Arab militia and sold into slavery to a woman in Khartoum, who beats her for touching her daughter.
I Am Slave is the story of one woman's life from the time she kidnapped at 12 yrs into modern-day slavery til she manages to get her freedom. I Am Slave, starring Wunmi Mosaku, is a powerful story of imprisonment, cruelty and despair, but also one of hope and humanity.
I Am Slave. Having been kidnapped as a child and taken away from Sudan, young Malia finds herself in London where she's made to work with no wages and no freedom in a house where they control her every move.
