Already disoriented, Jason and Sarah are unnerved when their son, Sam, begins seeing ghosts and violent deaths. After Sam is hospitalized, Sarah consults with a pharmacist who's well-informed about Chinese mythology and who tells her that supernatural forces threaten her son.

They Wait. After living in Shanghai for three years, Sarah (Jaime King) and her husband, Jason (Terry Chen), and young son, Sam (Regan Oey), return to North America for a family funeral. But something strange is going on. While the family stays with Jason's Aunt Mei (Cheng Pei Pei), Sam starts seeing ghosts and then falls gravely ill.
Jason Tsai, his wife Sarah and their six year-old son Sam live in Shanghai and they need to travel to the Pacific Northwest in North America in the Hungry Ghost Month for the funeral of Jason's Uncle Raymond.
