Born on September 1, 1915 in Lahore, he was the son of Hira Singh, the postmaster of Sadar Bazar Post Office, Lahore.
Rajinder Singh Bedi studied till fourth class at a school in Lahore Cantonment, Punjab, Pakistan. In 1931, he passed his matriculation examination with first division. He couldn’t complete his graduation because his mother passed away from tuberculosis and he had to drop out of college to get a job.
