Tanulmányait a Színház- és Filmművészeti Főiskolán folytatta, diplomáját 1968-ban vehette át. A legkiválóbb hazai filmrendezőkkel dolgozhatott együtt, mások mellett Sándor Pállal és Gazdag Gyulával. Munkái Oscar- és Emmy-díjat is nyertek, Magyarországon többek között Kossuth- és Balázs Béla-díjjal is elismerték.
