Mercédès Adrienne Manuela Ramona Jellinek was born in Vienna on September 16th, 1889. She was the third child from businessman Emil Jellinek's (April 6th, 1853 - January 21st, 1918) first marriage to Rachel Goggman (April 29th, 1854 - September 18th, 1893).
At the time, Jellinek was the largest dealer for DMG vehicles, with contacts in the very highest echelons of society. The pseudonym "Mercédès", under which Jellinek entered car races, was to become the brand name for these Daimler products.
