Pentala Harikrishna (born 10 May 1986) is an Indian chess grandmaster. He became the youngest grandmaster from India after attaining the title in 2001, a record now held by Gukesh D. He was Commonwealth Champion in 2001, World Junior Champion in 2004, and Asian Individual Champion in 2011. He is currently sixth-highest rated player in India. Harikrishna won the Tata Steel Group B in 2012 and the Biel MTO Masters Tournament Open event in 2013.

Harikrishna was born in Guntur, a city 64 kilometers north of the Bay of Bengal, in 1986. In his youth, he was almost always India’s best player for his age, winning the country’s national titles for players under the ages of eight, 10, 14, 15, and 18. In 1996 in the under-10 group he also won the world title.
Pentala Harikrishna became the World Under-10 Champion in 1996. He won the Under-18 prize at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in 1999. When he was 14 years and 5 months old, Harikrishna joined the Indian team for the 2000 Chess Olympiad. After that, Harikrishna earned his second and third Grandmaster norms.
Pentala Harikrishna became a grandmaster in 2001 at the age of 15 years 3 months and 5 days, the youngest Indian to gain the title until that time. Won at most levels of India's age championships. Main achievements in the youth and junior divisions were winning the World U10 Championship 1996, Asian U14 Championship 1999, World Junior Champion 2004, Chess960 World Junior Championship 2006.
