Nedo Nadi (9 June 1894 – 29 January 1940) was one of the best Italian fencers of all time. He is the only fencer to win a gold medal in each of the three weapons at a single Olympic Games and won the most fencing gold medals ever at a single Games—five.
Born in Livorno, Italy, in 1894, the fencer Nedo Nadi enjoyed an unusual advantage early on. His father, Giuseppe Nadi, was one of Italy’s greatest swordsmen, and from childhood Nedo and his brother Aldo received expert tutelage in using swords of all kinds.
Nedo Nadi was the most versatile fencer in history, uniquely winning an Olympic title with each of the three weapons at the same Games. 22 wins to the gold medal. In 1912, when he was only 18 years old, Nadi won the individual foil title and then, in 1920, he produced one of the greatest of all Olympic performances.
Nedo Nadi was an Italian fencer who won six gold medals in three different weapons at the 1912 and 1920 Olympics. He was also a fencing teacher, a World War I veteran and the brother of another famous fencer, Aldo Nadi.
