Lucio Amelio (13 September 1931 – 2 July 1994) was an Italian art dealer, curator, and actor. For decades he contributed to make Naples an international art centre encouraging the dialogue between European and American contemporary arts.

This exhibition, devoted to Lucio Amelio (1931-1994) on the twentieth anniversary of his death and organised in collaboration with the Archivio Amelio, recounts the story of one of the unquestioned protagonists of contemporary art, who helped make Naples one of the most important centers of artistic production and reflection in recent decades, both nationally and internationally.
Lucio Amelio was born on 13 September 1931 in Via dei Tribunali in Naples.[2][3] Due to the Second World War, his family moved several times and settled in 1944 for twelve years in Resina. After graduating in 1949 from Liceo scientifico, Amelio enrolled in architecture studies at the University of Naples.
Still a massive inspiration reference, Lucio Amelio (1931-1994) has been one of the uncontested main character of the contemporary art scene in Naples. Thanks to a boundless experimentation, started with the independent gallery opening in 1965, the “Modern Art Agency”, he contributed to make the city of Naples one of the epicentre – both nationally and internationally – of the art production and the critical reflection.
The first of many. After a second space in Milan, he expanded to London in 2009, Hong Kong in 2016 and to Paris in February 2021. This last gallery, a small space on rue de Turenne, offers an innovative concept inherited from the iconic art dealer Lucio Amelio, who in 1989 opened a space that hosted exhibitions comprising of just one artwork.
