Kenelm Frederick Foss was born on 13 December 1885 in Croydon. He was an actor, playwright and film director and producer. Foss' father had hoped that his son would become an artist, and Foss studied art at the Wellesley School of Art and in Paris. However, in 1903 he made his first stage appearance at the Court Theatre under Granville Barker.
