George MacDonald (10 December 1824 – 18 September 1905) was a Scottish author, poet and Christian Congregational minister. He became a pioneering figure in the field of modern fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow-writer Lewis Carroll .

George MacDonald's life (1824-1905) spanned the greater part of the nineteenth century. He was a devout Scotsman steeped in a history full of bards, pipers, intense loyalties, clan feuds, and a long line of Scottish heroic figures.
George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister. He was educated at Aberdeen University and after a short and stormy career as a minister at Arundel, where his unorthodox views led to his dismissal, he turned to fiction as a means of earning a living. He wrote over 50 books.
