Hal Roach Studios was an American motion picture and television production studio. Known as The Laugh Factory to the World, it was founded by producer Hal Roach and business partners Dan Linthicum and I.H. Nance as the Rolin Film Company on July 23, 1914.
The Hal Roach Studios (1919–1963) in 1959. Unable to expand his studios in Downtown Los Angeles because of zoning, Roach purchased what became the Hal Roach Studios from Harry Culver in Culver City, California.
Apr 1, 2006 · One of Culver City’s lost landmarks was the Hal Roach Studios, originally located at 8822 West Washington Blvd. (at the corner of Washington & National Blvds.). In 1980, the site was marked with an historical plaque as one of the City’s most famous and important studios.

HAL ROACH STUDIOS. by Richard W. Bann. Probably no producer’s work has brought the world more laughter than that of movie pioneer Hal Roach. Dating from 1914, Hal Roach Studios has produced silent motion pictures, sound short subjects and feature-length films, radio and television.
Hal Roach’s life itself was as colorful as anything ever portrayed on film. In addition to Laurel and Hardy, Hal Roach Studios brought to fame such actors as Harold Lloyd, the ‘Our Gang’ kids (later known as The Little Rascals or Hal Roach’s Rascals ), bombshell actress Thelma Todd, Zasu Pitts and Charley Chase.
Five years later he established the Hal Roach Studios at Culver City, California. From that studio, he went on to produce other Lloyd films, including his famous Safety Last! (1923).
