Jul 19, 2013 · Violist Kim Kashkashian and the Vienna RSO are ideal and formidable interpreters, bringing renewed variety to the piece’s inherent textures as compared to the reference recording by Aldo Bennici (for whom it was written) fronting the London Sinfonietta.
Kim Kashkashian is the violist who may well render viola jokes null and void, so individual and genuine is her artistry. She tears into Voci with not-at-all-reckless abandon, navigating the score’s technically and emotionally complex surface with serious grace and a firm hand.
