Dr. Kumar received his Bachelors of Technology Degree in Manufacturing Science and Engineering in 1987 and his Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He worked briefly in a manufacturing industry (M/s Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Pvt. Ltd) in 1987.
