Mirza Raja Jai Singh I (15 July 1611 – 28 August 1667) was the senior most general (" Mirza Raja ") and a high ranking mansabdar at the imperial court of Mughal Empire as well as the Kachwaha ruler of the Kingdom of Amber (later called Jaipur ). His predecessor was his grand uncle, Mirza Raja Bhau Singh, the younger son of Mirza Raja Man Singh I .
Sawai Jai Singh II (3 November 1688 – 21 September 1743), was the 29th Kachwaha Rajput ruler of the Kingdom of Amber, who later founded the fortified city of Jaipur and made it his capital. He became the ruler of Amber at the age of 11, after the death of his father, Mirza Raja Bishan Singh, on 31 December 1699.
Jai Singh would have received his early instruction in astronomy through the use of the astrolabe, and in fact one of the early instruments at his observatory in Jaipur is the Yantraraja, a great Astrolabe approximately 8 feet in height.
Jai Singh II of Amber. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh (November 3, 1688 – September 21, 1743) was the Rajput ruler of the kingdom of Amber (later called Jaipur ). He was born at Amber (now Jaipur), the capital of the Kachwahas. He became ruler of Amber at the age of 11 after his father Maharaja Bishan Singh died on 31 December 1699.
At the age of 10, Jai Singh I became the Raja of Amber and the head of the Kachwaha Rajputs. His military career spans the full reign of Shah Jahan and the first half of Aurangzeb's reign. Jai Singh's first step in his rise to greatness took place on the accession of Shah Jahan (1627).
Jai Singh built 5 observatories across northern India between 1724 and 1730. the decision to build multiple observatories at large distances from one another was in part a quest for accuracy; the ability to compare readings from different coordinates.
