Born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1977, Simon Reade is a conductor, composer, trumpet player and educator. Simon is passionate about the performance of new music and has given the world premiere of over 100 new works by Tasmanian composers, many of these with the Hobart Wind Symphony which he has directed for over 25 years.
Born in Launceston, Tasmania, Simon graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in 1998, majoring in composition. He then completed a Bachelor of Education in 2005. He has been working as a Brass specialist since 2000, currently employed at Ogilvie, Clarence and Bellerive schools.
Simon has been the Musical Director of Hobart City Band Inc. since 1997 and is the conductor of the Hobart Wind Symphony, who he led to the 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2017 National ‘A’ Grade Concert Band titles.
Simon Reade is the screenwriter and producer of RC Sherriff's Journey's End (Lionsgate/BFI, director Saul Dibb) and Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful (starring Jack O'Connell and George MacKay). He also directed the comedy drama documentary What You Will (Soda Pictures).
